SharePoint
SharePoint's multi-purpose platform allows for managing and provisioning of intranet portals, extranets and websites, document management and file management, collaboration spaces, social networking tools, enterprise search, business intelligence tooling, process/information integration, and third-party developed solutions. SharePoint can also be used as a web application development platform.

Egnyte and SharePoint are both business solutions for file sharing and collaboration that also include features for document management and version control. They can integrate with third-party applications like Microsoft Office, support team collaboration with real-time editing and sharing capabilities, ensure file security with encryption, access controls and compliance certifications.

But Egnyte (launched in 2007) is a cloud service, that primarily targets small to medium businesses. It also supports hybrid deployment, allowing local file servers alongside the cloud. Egnyte has simpler user-interface for document management. It also provides out-of-box vertical solutions for regulated industries like healthcare and finance.

SharePoint (2001) is Microsoft's content management system for enterprise that provides advanced intranet and business process automation tools. It's usually deployed on-premise within Microsoft ecosystem. SharePoint offers more extensive customization options through coding and third-party add-ons.
