Microsoft Project is a project management software program developed and sold by Microsoft which is designed to assist project managers in developing plans, assigning resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing budgets and analyzing workloads. The application creates critical path schedules, and critical chain and event chain methodology third-party add-ons are also available. Schedules can be resource leveled, and chains are visualized in a Gantt chart.

SharePoint's multi-purpose platform allows for managing and provisioning of intranet portals, extranets and websites, document management and file management, collaboration spaces, social networking tools, enterprise search, business intelligence tooling, process/information integration, and third-party developed solutions. SharePoint can also be used as a web application development platform.
Microsoft Project and SharePoint are two widely used but outgoing products designed to enhance team collaboration and employee productivity. Both are quite scalable and used either by small teams or by large enterprises. They enable cloud-based and on-premise deployment, integrate seamlessly with other Microsoft 365 tools like Teams and Outlook.
But Microsoft Project is focused on advanced project management and includes such features as Gantt chart, critical path analysis and resource management. It's aimed for industries that require precise scheduling, such as construction or software development. At the moment Microsoft is replacing it with the newer project management tool Planner.
SharePoint was designed as a content management system for collaborative intranet creation. It's used for sharing information, managing knowledge base and collaborative document editing. Microsoft is slowly replacing it with Teams and Viva.
